Creating a space to discuss research ideas and ways that we can support one another to attract funding to undertake menopause research.

Would you like Aberdeen to be the leading hub of menopause research in the UK? Then come along to the Rowett Institute from 9 am on June 23 to meet others with the same exciting ambition to focus local expertise into a much-needed champion of healthier ageing for women.

All university and NHS staff with an interest in this crucial field for women’s health are warmly invited to attend to hear from our leading teams and discuss the best ways to join forces to create a nationally recognised centre of expertise to benefit women worldwide, to influence government policy and to unlock bigger funding streams.

The session is due to run until 10:45 and coffee/tea has been donated (not out of university funds).

Professor Lora Heisler said the aim of the hub is to fill a unacceptable gap in the UK research landscape when it comes to one of the most important women’s health issues.

“There are pockets of individuals undertaking menopause research in the UK, but not a hub that we are aware of. We want to be the first to provide one.

“Speaking at the workshop will be two clinician/scientists, four Rowett researchers and two researchers from the Department of Psychology – but we know there are many more and we’re hoping that the workshop will attract others as we start to build a formidable research hub.”
