An evening of poems and letters by Charles Hamilton Sorley with music and performance from St Machar Academy Choir

An evening to remember Charles Hamilton Sorley and the legacy of poems and letters he wrote will be told at Powis community Centre.  There will be an opportunity to hear some of Sorley's work combined with music and St Machar Academy Choir will perform.

Charles Hamilton Sorley moved to Powis House as an infant and was the son of University of Aberdeen professor, William Ritchey Sorley, who taught moral philosophy.

Sorley was just 21 when he was killed by a German sniper’s bullet during the Battle of Loos in 1915 but when his work was published posthumously a year later, it made a significant impact. He was described by poet, writer and critic Robert Graves as “one of the three poets of importance killed during the war,” alongside Wilfred Owen and Isaac Rosenberg.

Storytellar Jackie Ross will be providing storytelling for any children.
