The Centre for Multilingual Research at the University of Aberdeen is delighted to invite students and staff to a special panel discussion on Monday 19th May. The roundtable will bring together experts on urban spaces and built environments in contexts from across Europe. Drawing on intersecting fields across literary and visual studies, architecture and urban planning, history, sociology, and cultural studies, the discussion will explore the significance of urban environments in shaping human experience. Together, they will consider how post-war planning in major European cities shaped lived experience, its affective consequences, and the politics of space and resistance that emerged from it.
The speakers, Professor Edward Welch (University of Durham), Dr Laura Bowie (University of Greenwich) Dr Stephan Ehrig (University of Glasgow) and Dr Jesse Barker (University of Aberdeen) will share insights from their research and offer reflections on future directions for explorations of urban spaces.
This is a wonderful opportunity to engage with the urban environments that shape our lived experience, with the contested politics around spatial planning, and protest movements offering new visions of urban experience. All are welcome – please feel free to share this invitation with your students, colleagues, or anyone who may have an interest in this event.
