Dr Mateusz Drozdowski (University of the National Education Commission, Kraków)
is visiting Aberdeen as part of our staff and student exchange agreement from 22-26 April 2025.

He will be teaching a class with prof Tom Weber on

Circle-squaring: Britain and Poland in the time of World War II. On 23 April, 6-8 pm, on the online course ' Hitler (https://on.abdn.ac.uk/courses/hitler/), focusing on German-Polish relations between 1934 and 1939.

 

As part of this year’s last seminar of the Centre for Polish-Lithuanian Studies, University of Aberdeen, on 25 April 2025 (at 4 pm, in Seminar Room 1, 7th floor in the Sir Duncan Rice Library) ,Dr Drozdowski will deliver a paper on

BritainandPolandinthetimeoftheParisPeaceConference(1919-1920)

The lecturewill take place during a half day symposium at the Centre for Polish-Lithuanian Studies on 25 April 2025.There will also be a discussion on the collapse of communism in Poland and the Soviet Bloc and the transition of the 1990s, which in the light of recent Russian policies have taken on new relevance.

Dr Drozdowski is deputy director of the Institute of History and Archival Studies,and member of the Department of Contemporary History and Historical Education at the University of the National Education Commission, Kraków, Poland

 

His research interests include British policies towards Poland during the period of systemic transformation (1988-1991); the reconstruction of the Polish state after World War I in the international context and public history, in particular historical content on the Internet, and history in tourism.

 

Dr Drozdowski received his PhD in international relations and history at the Jagiellonian University, published as a monograph in 2017. The book focuses on the Supreme National Committee, an organization that in the years 1914-1918 was the political base of the Polish Legions. His current scientific interests are in the history of the late 20th century, in particular international aspects of the changes taking place in Poland in the late 1980s. He has also worked, for 12 years (2007–2019) worked in the tourism industry as a licensed tour guide in Krakow for specialized trips with a historical and cultural profile around Central and Eastern Europe, and as a guide to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum in Oświęcim (Auschwitz).
