Introducing ‘Baggage for the Beyond’

Baggage for the Beyond is a research project run by Dr Jennifer Riley, funded by the Leverhulme Trust’s Early Career Fellowship scheme (grant number: ECF-2023-153).

It is the first in-depth exploration of 'grave goods' in contemporary Britain - the things people put in other people's coffins or graves, knowing they will almost certainly never get them back. The project explores grave goods and their associated meanings and motivations - especially in light of environmental concerns, and people's afterlife beliefs (or their absence). It has been running since 2024.

This short presentation, recorded in March 2024, provides an introduction to the project.  It takes the form of a PechaKucha 20x20 - a concise presentation format that gives you twenty seconds to talk to each of twenty slides, each of which is predominantly visual.
