Conference Presentations

Presentations at conferences are an important project output – a way to report findings and develop analyses.

This page includes some of these conference presentations, as videos, or as slide decks with prose corresponding to the slides used.

At the Centre for Death and Society (CDAS) Anniversary conference in 2025, I presented on ‘ludism,’ suggesting that grave goods practices can simultaneously be ‘silly’ and deeply meaningful.

At the second DEAGENCY (Death and Agency) conference in Ljubljana in July 2025, I introduced the audience to Angela, and together we explored some of the complexities grave goods can reveal about what it means to be an ‘individual’ after we die.

At DDD17 – the 17th Death, Dying and Disposal conference – in Utrecht in August 2025, Charlie the toy monkey and I unpacked some of the politics and tensions that our grave goods might conceal.
