How to prepare

Top tips

Attending a careers fair can be a daunting prospect, particularly if this is your first event of this type. Follow our tips to be ready and confident on the day:

  • Make a plan. Review the list of exhibitors (see below), visit their websites and make notes on those who most interest you and any specific questions you have for them.
  • What will I ask? You can find out about the recruitment process, what it is like to work at the organisation, their opportunities, skills needed etc – and anything else which helps you to work out if an employer is right for you. Remember: they want to chat to you!
  • Don’t stand back. If you are attending the fair with friends, make sure you still get to speak. You won’t leave a lasting impression by listening to other people asking questions.
  • Use your time wisely. If an exhibitor is busy, move on to the next employer and come back later. Some employers may be very busy, so give yourself plenty of time to speak to everyone on your list.

We’re here to help. If you have questions or get stuck, come and find us at the Careers and Employability Service stand.
