Whaling Songs & Sea Shanties
-

This is a past event

Whaling songs and sea shanties have played a vital role in our coastal communities throughout the generations.

Come along and hear from Dr Tom McKean, Director of the Elphinstone Institute, who will give an informal talk exploring whaling songs and sea shanties and why they are such an important part of the heritage and culture of coastal communities like Portsoy.  You will also be able to hear some examples of some whaling songs and sea shanties.

Following the talk there will be an opportunity to chat with fellow alumni over a fly cup and also have the chance to explore the Salmon Bothy Museum.

Entry is £5.  Online registrations have now closed. If you would like to attend this event please email us on alumni@abdn.ac.uk and we will register you.
