Undergraduate

Entry Requirements can vary depending on the programme applied for. As a general guide, students should present the following minimum requirements to be considered for admission to the University of Aberdeen.

Arts/Humanities/Business/Social Sciences

For entry to the Master of Arts (MA) programme, we look for a minimum of:

  • High School GPA of 3.0

Plus one of the following standardised tests:

  • SAT score of 1250 (post-March 2016), with 600 in Evidence-Based Reading and Writing, OR
  • ACT composite score of 26, OR
  • 1 SAT Subject Test score of 600

Science

For entry to the BSc., we look for:

  • a minimum High School GPA of 3.0

Plus one of the following standardised tests:

  • SAT score of 1250 (post-March 2016), with 600 in Math, OR
  • ACT composite score of 26

Plus one of the following standardised subject Tests:

  • 1 SAT Subject Test with a score of 600 from either Math, Biology, Chemistry, or Physics, OR
  • 1 AP Subject Test with a grade of 3 or above from either Math, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or Physics

Engineering

For entry to the B.Eng/M.Eng., we look for:

  • a minimum High School GPA of 3.0

Plus one of the following standardised tests:

  • SAT score of 1250 (post-March 2016), with 600 in Math, OR
  • ACT composite score of 26

Plus one of the following standardised subject Tests:

  • 1 SAT Subject Test with a score of 600 from either Math, Biology, Chemistry, or Physics, OR
  • 1 AP Subject Test with a grade of 3 from Math, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or Physics

Law

For entry to the LLB, we look for:

  • a minimum High School GPA of 3.3

Plus one of the following standardised tests:

  • SAT score of 1320 (post-March 2016), with 650 in Evidence-Based Reading and Writing, OR
  • ACT composite score of 28, OR
  • 2 SAT Subject tests with a score of 650, OR
  • 2 AP Subject Test at grade 4

Medicine

Postgraduate

Entry to a Master of PhD programme usually requires the equivalent of a 2:1 (Upper Second Class Honours) British degree, or a 2:2 (Lower Second Class) British Degree.

  • A US degree with a CGPA of 3.3 - 3.5 in an honours programme, with a minimum of 3.5 in degree relevant subjects, is considered comparable to a 2:1 British degree.
  • A US degree with a CGPA of 3.0 is considered comparable to a 2.2 British degree.

Postgraduate programmes at the University of Aberdeen and other British universities do not generally require standardised tests such as the GRE, GMAT, LSAT, MCAT etc. Instead, applicants are assessed on the merit and relevance of their undergraduate studies, as well as references and personal statement.
