The University is pleased to offer the George & Lilian Adam Smith Scholarship, specifically designed to support postgraduate taught offer holders who are seeking sanctuary in the UK and commencing their studies with us in January 2026
Description
Higher education institutions in the UK have a long tradition of providing sanctuary for academics and young people forced to flee conflict and persecution and find safety elsewhere. We work in partnership with the Council for At-Risk Academics (CARA) and other partner initiatives to develop a culture of welcome within the University and our wider community.
1 successful postgraduate taught student will receive the following for the duration of a full-time on campus 12-months Master:
- Tuition Fee Waiver – up to a max of £26,250 for asylum seekers (if required)
- Free Single Occupancy Accommodation if required
- Maintenance - £7,500 per annum
Eligibility
The scholarship is open to any taught postgraduate offer holder that has an official Home Office status as one of the following:
- Asylum Seeker
- Refugee
- Humanitarian protection with forced migration background
- Limited leave to remain with forced migration background
- Discretionary leave to remain with forced migration background
Applicants must be residing in the UK.
In order to be eligible, applicants need to hold an offer of study for a taught postgraduate Master degree at Aberdeen for entry in January 2026.
