The University is pleased to offer a Shining Lights Scholarship, specifically designed to support undergraduate offer holders who are seeking sanctuary in the UK and commencing their studies with us in September 2026
Description
Higher education institutions in the UK have a long tradition of providing sanctuary for academics and young people forced to flee conflict and persecution and find safety elsewhere. We work in partnership with City of Sanctuary, the Council for At-Risk Academics (CARA), and other partner initiatives to develop a culture of welcome within the University and our wider community.
1 successful undergraduate student will receive the following for a maximum of four/five years of full-time on campus study:
- Tuition Fee Waiver – up to a max of £25,000 per year for asylum seekers (if required)
- Free Single Occupancy Accommodation if required in University owned accommodation
- Maintenance - £4,000 per annum
Eligibility
The Scholarships are open to any full-time on campus undergraduate offer holder that has an official Home Office status as one of the following:
- Asylum Seeker
- Refugee
- Humanitarian protection with forced migration background
- Limited leave to remain with forced migration background
- Discretionary leave to remain with forced migration background
Applicants must be residing in the UK.
