Thanks to a generous donation from the Very Reverend Professor Iain Torrance, the University of Aberdeen is pleased to offer the T.F. Torrance Scholarships. The scholarships support promising doctoral students studying on a full-time, residential basis at the University of Aberdeen in the fields of Systematic and Historical Theology, Pastoral Theology, Theological Ethics and Biblical Studies.

Awards in amounts up to £2000 will be made to individual candidates to contribute to their support in specific years. The University reserves the right to commit funding to a single candidate for up to three years. All offers are subject to the candidate completing registration to study at the University of Aberdeen for the academic year in which the scholarship is awarded. In the event of a suspended or deferred registration, offers will be withdrawn.


Applicants must be registered in the doctoral programme or hold an offer of admission at the time of application.

Decisions will be based on (i) the perceived importance of the project, (ii) the academic strength of the candidate and (iii) need of financial support. All applications must be accompanied by a supporting letter of reference from an academic, as specified in the application form.
