Pre-requisites

None. May not be taken by candidates who have H or A level in Russian or an equivalent or greater qualification.

Overview

This course lays the foundation of a basic command of Russian for those without any previous knowledge. It introduces the student to the Russian alphabet, to the fundamentals of Russian grammar and to a basic working vocabulary, and gives extensive practice in reading, writing, listening and speaking. In addition to four one-hour tutorials, students must fulfil at least one further hour of unsupervised practice in the Language Centre.

Structure

4 one-hour tutorials per week.

Assessment

1st Attempt: 1 two-hour written examination (50%), in-course assessment: written work (30%) and oral work (20%).

Resit: 1 two-hour written examination (100%).
