Biography

Dr Vivek Bhatt is a Lecturer in Public International Law at the University of Aberdeen. He holds a PhD in Law from the University of Edinburgh, an MSc in Political Theory (with Distinction) from the London School of Economics, and an LLM in International Law from the University of Sydney. Vivek joined the University of Aberdeen's Law School in August 2022, before which he held posts as an Assistant Professor of International Law and Human Rights at Utrecht University and a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Essex Human Rights Centre. 

Vivek's primary specialties are in international human rights law, counterterrorism, and violent conflict, and his research in these areas draws heavily upon poststructuralist, postcolonial, and TWAIL perspectives. Vivek has published his work in leading international journals including the Journal of Human Rights Practice and in edited volumes published by Oxford University Press and Hart. Vivek is part of the editorial team and a regular contributor for Opinio Juris, the world's most widely read international law blog, presented in conjunction with the International Commission of Jurists.
