Biography

Visiting Lecturer in Counselling

As an Accredited BACP Counsellor and Psychotherapist, Counselling Supervisor and Trainer, I teach on the counselling programmes within the School of Education.  I am a Fully Registered Teacher with the General Teaching Council for Scotland and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I am a member of the accredited register for COSCA, and a  practitioner researcher in Counselling and Psychotherapy. I have lived and worked in Aberdeenshire for 24 years and moved here in 1994 from the central belt of Scotland.

After taking a first degree in English and Psychology, I qualified as a teacher at University of Oxford and taught in UK high schools. I then took up a post as Lecturer in FE and enjoyed teaching adult learners for 12 years.  I also worked for the SQA as an external examiner. Later, I qualified as a counsellor and psychotherapist, and set up my counselling practice in Aberdeen, which has a mission to improve health, wellbeing and inclusion in the North East of Scotland. Currently, I research and also teach counselling here at The University of Aberdeen's School of Education part time, to undergraduates and post graduate researchers. I also participate in peer reviewing in Counselling and Psychotherapy for the European Journal for Qualitative Research in Psychotherapy. I am a consulting editor for the British Psychological Society's peer reviewed journal, the Transpersonal Psychology Review.
