Research Overview
I am interested in the ways in which people relate to the environment, and the role creative practice can play in this. Following a landscape-scale approach, I want to know how humans and other species collectively negotiate and build worlds.
Current Research
My PhD project investigates the intersections between the heritage craft of violin making and forested landscapes in Germany and Brazil. My research follows three music trees (European spruce, Sycamore maple, and Paubarsilia) from their sites of growth to the workbench and into performance spaces. Utilising multispecies ethnographic methods, it investigates the environmental, social, economic, and political roles these trees play in music industries.
Past Research
Previously, I have conducted research on environmental temporalities in the context of Scottish rewilding initiatives, and on the use of public space and food practices amongst migrant communities in Germany (FOOD2GATHER).
