Zoology Museum

The Zoology Museum's displays are worldwide in scope, from protozoa to the great whales, including taxidermy, skeletal material, study skins, fluid-preserved specimens and models.

Visitors are warmly welcomed to the museum, and there is no charge for admission.

There are two entrances to the Zoology museum: on Tillydrone Avenue at the top of the stairs or via Cruickshank Gardens.

By Car

A NOTE ON PARKING

  • Parking on site is reserved for staff and students Monday-Friday.
  • Blue badge holders are welcome to use the disabled bays in the parking lot.
  • Alternative parking for visitors can be found on the Chanonry and Bedford Road (both are pay and display).
  • If you are visiting with a buggy or wheelchair, parking on the Chanonry and entering via Cruickshank Botanic Garden is much easier as it avoids stairs. Thank you for your understanding.

By Bus

Several buses & coaches pass near the museum

First Bus no. 19 is the most direct, stopping just outside the museum. Numbers 1, 1B, 2 and 20 also stop on campus, approximately a five-minute walk from the library gallery. Service 17 & 18 stop at Burnett Place which is about a 10 minute walk from the entrance. You can find more information on the First Bus website.

Stagecoach buses no. 50, X60, X63. X67, X68 & 291 also stop on King Street a short walk away from the library gallery. Service 727 stops at Burnett Place which is about a 10 minute walk from the entrance. For more information on times and to plan your journey please visit the Stagecoach website.

Both companies accept cash and card.

By Bike

A small number of bike stands are available at both entrances. At the Tillydrone avenue entrance these are located in the parking area, below the steps that lead to the entrance. When entering from Cruickshank Gardens, the bike stands are just to the right of the entrance.

On Foot

The Zoology museum is approximately ten minutes walking distance from the main campus. This route takes the visitor through the Cruickshank Gardens.

Accessibility

There are two entrances to the Zoology museum; on Tillydrone avenue at the top of the stairs or via Cruickshank Gardens. For pram access we suggest entering via Cruickshank Gardens as there are multiple stairs via Tillydrone avenue.

Please note that upon entering the upper gallery, there are three small steps up to the main gallery level, and access from Cruickshank Gardens does involve a walk from parking spaces.

The doors at both entrances to the Zoology building are automatic and wheelchair accessible. For wheelchair access and mobility assistance, there is a lift, please press the buzzer and a member of staff will operate this.

Facilities

Toilets are located on the ground floor of the building, including an accessible toilet and changing facilities, as well as free period products in line with the Scottish Government’s initiative.

Seating is available in the foyer of the zoology building, food and drink is allowed in this area and in the Cruickshank Gardens but no food or drink is permitted within the museum galleries.

There are no food outlets available in the building, however there are numerous cafes and food outlets on campus.
