Semillas - Seeds

Desde abajo hasta arriba, establecen la vida. Se pueden encontrar en frutas deliciosas, piñas leñosas o linternas esqueléticas. Algunas pueden vivir durante décadas y se diseminan cuando el fuego, las ardillas o los escarabajos se acercan a ellas. Reconocimiento, protección, pero también atracción, las semillas dispersan su conocimiento genético. Sus colores y formas mandan mensajes: ¿qué sabor tienen? ¿son venenosas? ¿cómo llegaron allí? Cuando pensamos en los paracaídas y las alas de los aviones, debemos recordar que las plantas fueron las pioneras en estas formas de viajar. Las semillas bailan con los elementos: la tierra las acoge. El viento, el fuego y el movimiento favorecen su siembra. El agua las transporta o les ayuda a girar y a enterrarse. La semilla supera a la planta madre. En las condiciones adecuadas, pueden permanecer inactivas durante mil años y aun así convertirse en una planta. Si tienes dudas, puedes preguntarle a una planta de loto (Ambrose, Bayton, Candeias et al., 2018). En las entrevistas, las/os curanderas/os recuerdan sus conocimientos ancestrales y cómo estos se transmitieron a la siguiente generación o cómo después de un período de tiempo más largo este linaje se revivió.

From the bottom to the top, they establish life. You can find them in delicious fruits, woody cones or skeletal lanterns. Some can live for decades, and they disseminate once fire, squirrels or beetles approach them. Acknowledgement, protection but also attraction, the seeds disperse their genetic knowledge. Their colours and forms send messages: what flavour are they? are they poisonous? how did they end up there? When we think about parachutes and the wings of planes, we must recall that plants were pioneers in these forms of travelling. Seeds also dance with the elements: the earth takes them on. Wind, fire, and movement promote seeding. Water carries seeds or helps them to twist and bury themselves. Seeds outgrow their parents. In the right conditions, they can remain dormant for a thousand years and still become a plant. If you have doubts, you can ask a lotus plant (Ambrose, Bayton, Candeias et al., 2018). In the interviews, traditional healers recall their ancestral knowledge and how this was passed to the next generation or how this knowledge was revived further along their lineage.
