FAQs

I’m trying to register, but I can’t log into my email account - it says “We don't recognise this user ID or password”?

If you are a new student and you have only just completed eRegistration, please wait up to one hour while your new account is fully synchronised, and try again.

Please also make sure to enter the full email address you selected at eRegistration. If you are not sure what this is, you can remind yourself by logging back into your eReg portal.

I’ve forgotten my password and haven’t registered to use the self-service. What should I do?

Please contact the IT Service Desk for assistance.

I registered with password manager last year... Do I still need to register with the new service?

Yes. If you registered before 17th July 2017 you will have been using a different tool and will still need to set up with the new service.

What are the rules for setting a password?

When trying to set a new password, you might see the message “This password does not meet the length, complexity, age, or history requirements of your corporate password policy.” Or “We’ve seen that password too many times before. Choose something harder to guess.”

To make sure your account stays safe, your password:

  • Must not be a previously used password
  • Must contain at least 8 characters
  • Must not contain your IT account username
  • Must not contain your first or last name
  • Must contain characters from at least three of the following four character classes:
    • Uppercase English characters (e.g. A-Z)
    • Lowercase English characters (e.g. a-z)
    • Numeric characters (e.g. 0-9)
    • Special characters – choose from: ! # $ % & ( ) * + , - . : ; < = > ? @ [ ] ^ _ ` { | } ~
      • Note, the following symbols are not valid: £ \ " '

I changed my password but I still can’t log in?

Please allow up to 30 minutes for your password change to synchronise across all the University IT systems.

I’m no longer a student but I have an email-for-life account. How do I change my password?

The password reset tool is only available for current students. If you have an email-for-life account you can change your password using OWA’s own password change form.
