The Eternal Ascent: A History of the Route Names of Lochnagar

The Eternal Ascent: A History of the Route Names of Lochnagar

This is a past event

Since the first route went up in 1893 Lochnagar has attracted generations of mountaineers to its magnificent cliffs. Today there are over 260 routes up the faces of Lochnagar, but how are routes named, and by whom? Sheila will describe the naming protocol and tell some of the stories of the climbs which inspired names as diverse as Steep Frowning Glories, The Undertaker, Terrorist, Where Eagles Dare and Ham Butty.
