Description
A Victorian pink granite basin and cover carved with a scallop shell motif, for a spring traditionally associated with the dark age St Drostan who is supposed to have landed on this beach before evangelising the Buchan area in Pictish times.

In the book of Deir it is written: "Columcill and Drostan, son of Cosgrach his pupil came from Iona as God had shown them unto Abbordo Doir, and Bede the Pict was Mormaer (a rank) of Buchan before them, and it was he that gave them that town in freedom for ever from Mormaer and Tosech."
