A beautiful little sign if somewhat distressed, appears to be in enamelled steel? A convex oval with repoussé lettering and a decoration of a three masted ship.

It is incredible how evocative a font can be. This one shouts of both another place and another time. France in an era when travel was glamorous, an age with a perhaps naive optimism about the future, modernity and technology.
