A life-size bronze statue of an RNLI crewman, cast bronze in the style of heroic realism so much favoured for memorials.

The £40,000 statue which was designed by Orkney sculptor Ian Scott, of North Ronaldsay, was unveiled by Lady Saltoun, who has a long association with the Fraserburgh lifeboat station and is a past president of the local lifeboat guild.
An appeal to raise funds for the memorial was launched last summer and exceeded the target of £40,000 in only 10 months. In addition to local donations, money came from as far afield as Canada and France.
Lady Saltoun said she was amazed that a total of £58,000 had been raised so quickly, given the current financial climate.
The memorial bears the names of 13 men who have died in lifeboat service at the Broch over the past century.
They lost their lives when lifeboats capsized in 1919, 1953 and 1970 while trying to help other vessels in distress. See the photograph of the inscription for names.
