Private, U Company, 4th Gordon Highlanders, 1908-12; 2nd Lieutenant, 4th Gordon Highlanders, 1 September 1914; seconded to Machine Gun Corps; attached to A.I.F. Served - Home, 1914, 1915, 1916, 1917, 1918; Flanders, France, 1915, 1918. Final rank, Major.
