Duguid, James

Biography: Son of Frank Duguid, blacksmith ; born Old Deer, 13 December 1893; educated at Banchory and Gordon's College, Aberdeen ; entered the University in October 1912 ; student in Arts and Agriculture, 1912-14. By nature quiet and reserved, he was a very capable student, deeply interested in scientific agriculture. He enlisted in the R.A.M.C. previous to the war, and was called up in August 1914, later he was transferred to the R.A. Veterinary Corps. In spring 1915 he was sent to Egypt and later in that year obtained a commission in the North Staffordshire Regiment. He went to the Dardanelles with his Regiment in the summer of 1915, and, on returning to Cairo, sailed in March for Mesopotamia where he was killed in action on 9 April 1916.
