Biography: Son of James M.; born Brechin, 3 June 1890. M.A. (I CIass), 1910. 2nd class Class. Mods. Oxon., 1912; 2nd class Litt. Hum., 1914. Commissioned, 5th Black Watch, 27 October 1914. Seconded to Royal Engineers (Signal Service). Served—Home, 1914-15; France, March 1915-October 1916; Home, 1916-19. Final rank, Acting Captain.
