Biography: Son of David Allan; born Arbuthnott, 30 January 1882. M.A., 1904. Private, "U" Company, Gordon Highlanders, 1900; 2nd Lieutenant, O.T.C., Ardrossan Academy, 1905; Royal Field Artillery, 1906. Mobilized, 4 August 1914. Attached to the 2nd Lowland Brigade. Served - Home, 1914-15; Egypt, Palestine, Syria, May 1915-January 1919. Final rank, Major.
