Ellis, Alexander

Biography: Son of Alexander and Isabella Ellis, 24 Belvidere Crescent, Aberdeen ; born Aberdeen, 1906 ; educated at Robert Gordon's College. In 1926 he graduated M.A. with Honours in French and Spanish, later taking the B.A. of London University. He taught in Powis, Sunnybank, and Torry Schools. In 1941 he entered the Royal Air Force, and after training was posted to the Far East. Captured by the Japanese at Singapore he was sent to Thailand to work on the Bangkok railway. Released in September 1945 he had just reached Aberdeen when he died on 29 October 1945 from the effects of his three years of captivity.
