Biography: Son of Thomas T. Matthews; born Madagascar, 8 April 1872. M.B., 1895. Commissioned, R.A.M.C. (V.) 1901, (later T.F.). Mobilize, Major, 1914. Attached 1/3rd, 2/3rd, 1/2nd, 42nd, East Lancaster Field Ambulance; Officer Cadet, H.M.H.S. "Neuralia". Served-Home, 1914-15; Mediterranean Expedition. Force, Gallipoli, Egypt, France, May 1915-April 1919. Final rank, Acting Colonel, A.M.S. Distinguished Service Order, Three mentions in despatches 1916, 1918, 1919.
