Campbell, John Waran

Biography: Son of Mr. John Shand Campbell and Mrs. J. S. Campbell, Gordon Arms Hotel, Fife-Keith, Keith ; born Aberdeen 28 December 1919 ; educated at Keith Grammar School. He was a keen sportsman particularly in Association Football, being a playing member of Aberdeen Football Club. He completed the course for the Planters' Certificate of the North of Scotland College of Agriculture before volunteering for service in the R.A.F. in October 1939. He trained as a Pilot in Southern Rhodesia. On his return to this country he took part in many operations with Coastal Command. In December 1942, he was posted to the Far Eastern theatre and was based on Ceylon. On 24 August 1943, he was reported missing during operations over the Andaman Islands and was presumed to have been killed at that time.
