Biography: Son of James MacFarlane; born Edinburgh, 22 August 1872. M.B., 1900; Diploma of Public Health, 1903; M.D., 1911. Lieutenant, R.A.M.C. (T.F.), April 1915; attached 51st Highland. Casualty Clearing Station, Served-France, May 1915-February 1919. Final rank, Acting Major. Military Cross, "Medaille des Epidemes en argent".
