Biography: Son of Alexander Sutherland; born Echt, Aberdeenshire, 20 April 1894. M.A., 1916. Enlisted, Hawke Battalion Royal Navy Division, 19 October 1914. Served-Home, 1914-15; Gallipoli, May-July 1915. Discharged unfit, September 1915. Final rank, Able Seaman.
