Biography: Son of James Smith; born Mintlaw, 13 July 1889. M.A., 1911; M.B., 1914; Diploma in Public Health, 1920. U Company, 4th Gordon Highlanders. Commissioned, R.A.M.C., June 1916. Served-Mesopotamia, North West Frontier of India, August 1916-March 1917; Hospital Ship, March - July 1917. Final rank, Lieutenant. War work-Examination of recruits, Banff and Donside, 1915-16; Medical and Pensions Boards, 1917-18.
