Biography: Son of William Smith; born Aberdeen, 10 September 1890. M.A. (II Econ. Sc.), 1911. War work- Ministry of Munitions, 1915-16. Commissioned, Royal Flying Corps (later R.A.F.), 16 October 1916. Served- Home, 1916-20. Final rank, Major. Order of the British Empire.
