Biography: Son of Sir George Adam Smith; born Glasgow, 9 October 1898. Arts, 1916-17, 1919-. Edinburgh University Officer Training Corps Household Brigade, O.C.B. Commissioned, 3rd Gordon Highlanders, 27 November 1917. Attached to 8/10th, 9th, Battalions. Served-Home, 1917-18; France, Belgium, April 1918-February 1919. Final rank, 2nd Lieutenant.
