Biography: Son of Alexander S. Simpson; born Newburgh, Aberdeenshire, 25 February 1879. M.A.,1900; B.Sc. (Spec, dist.), 1904. Staff-Sergeant, South African Engineers, 5 October 1915. Commissioned, 28 October 1916. Served-Nyasaland, German East, Portuguese East, Africa, October 1915-December. 1918. Final rank, Captain. Order of the British Empire, 1919. Two mentions, "Gazette," August 1918, January 1919.
