Biography: Son of John Simpson; born Aberdeen, 25 November 1892. M.A. (I Classics), 1913; Lyon, Jenkyns, Black, Prizes; Seafield, Town Council, Gold Medals; Ferguson Scholar. Private, London Scottish, September 1915. Commissioned, 4th Gordon Highlanders, 1 March 1917. Attached to 124th Baluchistan Infantry, Indian Army. Served-Home, 1915-16, 1916-17; France, April - September 1916; India, September 1917-March 1918; Persia, March 1918-May 1919. Final rank, Acting Captain.
