Biography: Son of George F. Shirras; born Aberdeen, 16 July 1885. M.A.,1907. Captain, 4th Gordon Highlanders. War work-Director, Department of Statistics, Government, of India, 1914-19; Indian representative, Imperial Conference on Statistics, London, 1920. Mentioned in despatches, March 1919.
