Stuart, Alexander Forbes

Biography: Son of Rev. F. W. Stuart, U.F. Church Minister, Gartly, Aberdeenshire ; born there, 5 March 1898 ; educated Central Public School, Gartly, and Gordon Schools, Huntly ; student in Medicine, 1915-16. He was the fourth member of this family to enter Aberdeen University. As a schoolboy, Stuart was an enthusiastic Boy Scout and had done service in the Cruden Bay neighbourhood before coming up to the University, where he joined the O.T.C. On 14 October 1916 he enlisted in the R.A.M.C. and after training was drafted overseas, serving first at Salonika and then at Malta. While at Salonika the illness which later proved fatal, manifested itself and after some time he was invalided home and discharged on 8 March 1919. He died at Noranside Sanatorium, Forfarshire, on 21 April 1919, of illness contracted while on active service, and is mourned as one of those whose enthusiasms were unfulfilled.
