Biography: Son of Andrew Lyall; born Macduff, 18 October 1884. M.A., 1906. Commissioned, 5th Gordon Highlanders, 1912. Mobilized, August 1914. Attached to No.19 Officer Cadet Battalion, 1917. Served-Home, 1914-15, 1917-19; France, April 1915-March 1917. Final rank, Acting Major. Military Cross, January 1917. Mentioned in despatches, February 1919.
