Private, 1/1st Scottish Horse, 1 September 1914; commissioned, 6th Gordon Highlanders, 17 June 1915 ; attached 2/7th, 1/6th, 4th Reserves, Gordon Highlanders, 1/5th East Surrey Regiment. Served-Home 1914-17 ; France, January-May 1917 ; India, Mesopotamia, 1 year 3 months. Final rank, Acting Captain. Military Cross, 9 April 1917.
