Biography: Son of John Rannie; born Ythan Wells, 7 June 1885. M.A., 1907. War work-Special Constable, Troon, 1914-17. Attested, November 1915; called up, 30 June 1917. Joined Special Brigade Royal Engineers. Served-Home, 1917; France, September 1917-October 1918. Final rank, Pioneer.
