Biography: Son of Lewis Gavin; born Drumwhindle, Ellon, 17 January 1890. M.A. (II Class), 1912. Private, 4th Gordon Highlanders, 8 March 1915; commissioned, 1 August 1917. Served - Belgium, France, December 1915-April 1916; India, January 1918-January 1919. Final rank, Lieutenant.
