Biography: Son of William Fortune; born Inverurie, 14 November 1886. M.A., 1908 (II Modern Languages 1910). U Company, 1st Volunteer Battalion Gordon Highlanders, 1905; Oxfordshire Vol. T.C., 1914-15. Attested, 1915. Private, 10th Seaforth Highlanders, January 1917. Served with Royal Engineers (Wireless Section), 1917. Home, 1917-18; France, March-August 1917 ; July-December 1918 ; Germany, December 1918-November 1919. Final rank, Sapper.
