- Biography
- First baronet, antiquary and herald. M.A. St Andrews 1614, sent to continent, returned some time before 1626. Went to London 1628 to further his knowledge of heraldry, awarded title of herald 4 Dec 1628. Knighted May 1630, created Lyon king-at-arms 15 Jun 1630 (til 1654), granted the lands and barony of Kinnaird 1631, created baronet 1633. Succeeded his father 1652. Amassed a large and valuable library of books dealing with Scottish history, antiquities and heraldry.
