Biography

Cardinal and French statesman. Born Piscena, Italy but naturalised as French in 1639. Collector of books and art. Wanted his library to be available to the public, but it was broken up and sold at low prices on an act of Parliament in 1649. Reconstructed it with the help of Francois de la Poterie. Died Vincennes, France 1661.
