Biography
Quaker minister and writer. Born Colchester 1726. Became a Quaker minister at 21, travelled extensively in the ministry. Inherited his father's business c.1752. Founded almshouses for poor widows in Colchester 1791. Clerk of Colchester monthly meetings 1757-1791. Prolific author and editor of Quaker literature. Died Colchester 1815. Bequest set up Kendall's Trust, which distributed religious books, and Kendall's Foundation, a school at Colchester (also left 1030 volumes for their use but as these were Greek, Latin and Dutch, and not very useful, these were sold off).
