Biography

Elder brother of George Garden. Born Frendraucht 1645/7. Educated King's Coll., graduated M.A. 1662, D.D 1681. Minister at New Machar, Aberdeen before 1672, Maryculter, Kincardineshire 1675, Balermino 1676 and Carnbee 1678. Professor of divinity King's Coll., 1680-97. Removed from professorship for avoiding the oath of allegiance and questioning the jurisdiction of the visitation commissioners. Published Comparitive Theology 1700. Tried to reclaim his professorship 1703, took case to House of Lords 1714. Died Old Aberdeen 1726.
