Biography
Politician and patron of art. Only son of Henry, 2nd Viscount Clifden. Born London 17 Jan 1797. B.A. Christ Church, Oxford 1816, M.A. 1819. MP for Heytesbury 1818. Proposed grant for the purchase of the Angerstein collection of pictures, and towards the formation of a national gallery, 1823. MP for Ludgershall 1826, Okehampton 1830. Trustee of British Museum 1829-33, of National Gallery 1827-33. Member of the privy council 1830. Created Baron Dover 1831. Died Whitehall 10 July 1833.
