Biography
Antiquary and doctor. Born Adam Cardonnel. Educated for the medical profession and practised as a surgeon in Edinburgh. Interested in antiquities and coins. Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland, curator 1782-4. Published A Series of Scottish Coinage which he illustrated himself (1786), also Picturesque Antiquities of Scotland in four parts (1788-93). Added the name of Lawson after succeeded to the estates of his second cousin Hilton Lawson in Northumberland 1791. Sheriff of Northumberland 1798. Died June 1820.
